Bio
Jerry is a native of Indiana and an alumnus of Indiana University. He earned his doctorate from Louisiana State University and has been part of the Louisiana experience for more than 35 years. His hometowns have been San Juan, Fort Wayne, Shipshewana, Bloomington, Bloomfield, Blue Ash and Baton Rouge.
I have a Ph.D. in English and am a former college teacher who specialized in teaching composition and poetry, but don’t expect a stuffy academic. I've spent 25 years writing, editing and managing projects in the news, publishing and print marketing industries.
In addition to being a proofreader with a reputation for an eagle eye, I’ve seen my brand slogans on billboards and written copy for eight websites. It takes a lot of versatility and a little moxie to compile a list of credits like this:
wrote for a Fortune 500 company • wrote for an NFL team • won an AABP award as editor of 10/12 Industry Report • won a healthcare marketing award as editor of a publication for Blue Cross • chronicled the dream season of an Indiana high school basketball team • edited the official tourism guide for the city of Baton Rouge • edited a health & beauty magazine • created and wrote my publishing company’s house style guide • created hundreds of pages of guidance material for high school seniors • copyedited books on Milton and Pan-Africanism for a university press • contributed an article to a book on the poet John Berryman • wrote, produced and edited the Guide to Doing Business in Louisiana • edited the ESG report and the employee handbook for a longtime member of The Civic 50 • worked with six Louisiana governors and lieutenant governors • interviewed Nick Saban
